Chinese Imperial Earrings

The Chinese character "shou"� that means long life, was adapted from a brightly colorful and detailed embroidered Chinese Imperial Robe. Each symbol was created in polychrome silk on a bright yellow satin ground, which was reserved for the emperor and his chief consort. The design for the robe is a schematic diagram of the universe: water, earth and mountains, the sky. And the universe or gate of heaven.
